Lucky One

Went back to my hometown, first time in a decade

Hit the road back then and I never looked back

Met up with an old friend in a bar where we used to hell-raise

Talked about the old days and he looked at me and said...

I think you're the lucky one how I wish I had your life

You get to travel the world, see your name up in lights

Don't get me wrong I count my blessings every night

But what I wouldn't do

If I could be you

'Cause you're the lucky one

Went on to tell me how his oldest needed braces

Mortgage was two months past, more layoffs on the way

I don't want to let them down and I really need the paycheck

Wiped a tear from his eye as he looked at me and said...

I think you're the lucky one how I wish I had your life

You get to travel the world, see your name up in lights

Don't get me wrong I count my blessings every night

But what I wouldn't do

If I could be you

'Cause you're the lucky one

Back on the road on a bus outside Chicago

I look at a picture of my kids they're 8 and 10

They live with their mom and a new dad in California

I put down my bottle, pick up the phone and call my friend

And I say...

I think you're the lucky one how I wish I had your life

You get to travel the world, see your name up in lights

Don't get me wrong I count my blessings every night

But what I wouldn't do

If I could be you

'Cause you're the lucky one
